SLASH DROP MOUNTIES FOR FIRST WIN OF THE SEASON

A scrambled start almost wrote the same script for the Slash Saturday night. For almost two periods the Slash defense couldn't find their rythym, and it allowed the young Mountaineers squad to stay in the game. Then the thrid period happened. The Slash awoke, like a bear bieng poked in a deep slumber, and came out firing on all cylynders. A complete dominance of the Mountianeers in the third period allowed the Slash to go 6-1 and finish the game victorious, 12-8. One highliught of the game saw First overall pick Greg Bourret scoring his first hat trick of the year. Congrats Greg.

Next up for the Slash is the Edmonton Outlaws, at Bill Hunter arena, Wednesday May 16th. Ball drop is at 8:30pm

 KNIGHTS PREVAIL IN CLOSE BATTLE

Saturday night, for those in attendance, was a bit of a treat. A hard fought battle betwen two teams giving it their all. It was a very fast paced back and forth game, with many lead changes and ups and down.

Ultimately it was the Knights prevailing, with a late barrage of goals, and a strong performance from their goalie, shutting down a hot Slash offence when it counted most.

A huge night for Darren Kinnear, the rookie looked quite comfortable with a few crease dives and a beauty dunk style goal. Goalie Ryan Dryburgh looked like he was 16 again, playing a very strong game.

The final score was 10-7 for the Knights, which wasn't very indicative of the game, but typical for lacrosse.

Coach Gordan has made a few tweaks, and the boys will be ready for the travelling Mountaineers this Saturday at Grant Fuhr arena. Ball drop is 7:30pm, get your seat now!

2012 SEASON OPENER IS UPON US!!!

Saturday night the Knights of Rockyview decend upon Grant Fuhr arena to engage in battle against your Spruce Grove Slash. 7:30pm marks the start of battle between two teams very well known to each other. This match up leads to what should be a very entertaining war on the floor.

The Slash are very eager to debut this years coveted top draft picks. Keep a wide eye open for the debut of first and second overall picks, Greg Bourret and Darren Kinnear.  The Slash will be looking to these players to make an immediate impact and will be very excited to see their development unfold before our eyes.

Also suiting up this year is the BIGGER bigger brother of Darren, Justin Kinnear. Justin brings some much needed size and height to the Slash's right hand side.He is a player who can run both sides of the floor, and possesses an atheltic ability that will be very entertaining to watch.

Come down early and get your seat, Coach Gordon promises a few key suprises up his sleeve as well. See you there, 7:30 sharp!

 2012 PRESIDENTS' CUP
SLASH SCORE IN 2012 RMLL DRAFT

The Spruce Grove Slash picked first overall, and had a number of the top ten overall picks in the Rocky Mountain Lacrosse League JR. A draft.

General Manager Paul Koch chose Greg Bourret, of the Edmonton Eclipse as the #1 pick of the 2011 graduating class.  Bourret had 71 points in the regular season (1st overall) and 35 points in the play-offs and will be a welcome right handed shot.

The Slash picked 4th, 5th and 6th and took the following players in order: Darren Kinnear, (Miners Jr A), 53 points last year on left side; Matt McKenzie(Miners Jr A) a Spruce Grove resident, Miners Jr A, 21 points in 2011; Kirby Zdrill, Edmonton Eclipse Jr A, 46 points in 2011.

In the following round the Slash went to the JR B graduates, and selected scoring phenom Chris Britton from the  Jr BWarriors, he finished 2011 with 119 points in 20 games.  Other picks included Thomas Carr (Titans Jr B), Evan Judin (Rebels Jr B), Nick Amendt (Miners Jr A), Taylor Stitski (Warriors Jr B), Goalie Matt Hiebert (Crude Jr B), Kyle Crowley (Miners Jr A), Justin Paulowicz (Eclipse Jr A), Mike Rauchut (Miners Jr A), Corbin Starko (Rebels Jr B)and Justin Middleton (Rebels Jr B).

GM Paul Koch was very happy with the draft, he was able to add 5 solid left hand shooters to the line-up, all of whom have demonstrated the creativity and ability to score at will.  This was an area that hurt the Slash in 2011, a season in which they lost a number of close games, and the added scoring punch is exactly what Head Coach Trevor Gordon needed to round out his line-up as he prepares to lead the Slash towards the Presidents' Cup Championship in August.

Greg Bourret, 2012 first over-all pick, sporting the 2012 Jersey with GM Paul Koch.

2012 entry draft!!! - Friday, April 06, 2012

Sooooo with the conclusion of camp, we finally have a decent picture of the roster we will carry into this year's playoffs and eventually the Presidents Cup tournament. Although not complete, the roster thus far is exceeding expectation and looking very prepared. Coach Gordon has been very thourough, and extremely organized with his practices and the players have responded. The coach's message of what it takes to win is sinking in and is building a scary machine.

This season's version of the Slash may hold a few suprises. We are very commited to winning and will stop at nothing to ensure our greates oppportunity for success. The rookies look strong and confidant and the vets are in the best shape of their careers.

Let's hope it all comes together and we see it all on the floor. I for one am very excited to see the tweaks that have been made, the debut of our rookies, and to watch the team gel. All while climbing the mountain to our ultimate end goal.......hoisting that big a#@ trophy at the end of August.

Do not miss out, some of the province's best lacrosse will be played this summer, make sure you get your seat. See you at the rink!
